Grade 5T – The Fabulous Fives @ Menzies Creek P.S.

The third quarter is over and now we can look forward to the final siren at the end of term 4! Oops! Must be finals fever!

Thank you grade 5. You have worked so well and completed a great term’s work. I am very pleased with the way so many of you have stepped up and proven what great workers you are and great SCARF students. WELL DONE! It was a very busy term and I hope you will enjoy a restful but fun filled break over the next two weeks.

As I mentioned to you last week, we have some sensational activities planned for you in term 4 and I know that you will ‘take up the challenge’ and do your best to finish off well in the final quarter. Our unit- My Restaurant Rules, will be a lot of fun. We have our camp to Coolamatong on the 20th October and many other special activities planned.

In grade 5T we have been looking at abstract symbolism and cubism style art inspired by Pablo Picasso and other artists. Using the data projector we looked at lots of examples and discussed what we could see. Some people thought that the actual content of the art was hard to see. Some people thought that the work was colourful and unusual. We thought some paintings were very simple and not very life like. We could see that the artists tried to show some different emotions including sadness, shame and confusion. Most of us had fun having a go at creating our own art work using a similar style. Some people found it a bit of a challenge but the end results were very creative!.

Wow! What a great week we have had. The Father /Special Friend & Daughter night and Mother/Special friend  & Son Breakfast were great. It was fabulous to see so many people involved throughout both events. There were lots of hamburgers, salad and icecream consumed on Monday and Friday’s breakfast was a feast! Pancakes galore! Everyone seemed to be having a great time and enjoying the opportunity to chat and share some special time together.

It was also fabulous to see the wonderful reading and game sharing between all the grade 5’s and their buddies! Super efforts everyone.

Our comments on special activities:

The breakfast was great we all liked it. Tom H

The mother son breakfast was really fun! We all made our superheros but mum had to go early because she had to go to work to teach her students. So i walked mum to the car and i started to play with my friends outside on the basketball court. Philip

I had fun with my Dad at the dinner. We did lots of fun stuff. My Dad is Mr. Incredible and he is always there for me. Alana

THANK YOU grade 5! I was so pleased with the wonderful effort many of you have put in to your homework activities. The family trees, video interview, powerpoint presentations, character profiles and sport origins were great. Keep this up girls and boys. It certainly shows when you put in time and effort on your projects. It is important to aim high and do your best and feel proud of your finished piece of work.  You are all such capable students,  so don’t leave your projects to the last minute and rush to get them in. I am really looking forward to seeing your next activities.
